A mixture of photos and fine art textures.
I’ve always been on the lookout for a technique or process that as a designer and artist, would allow me to explore my fascination with textures. A number of years ago I discovered digital post processing – using layers of fine art textures and color to completely change the atmosphere of a photograph. Over the years I’ve developed my own technique and style for creating textures, both the method and resulting texture files can probably be labeled as “complex” (sort of like me I supose!). I’ve also developed my own methods for creating images using textures.
This site features some tutorials for combining images and textures, some free, downloadable textures to experiment with on your own and it also includes some of the artwork I’ve created over the last few years.
Learning how to use textures to enhance your photos is a wonderful creative journey.
With the new and exciting crop of apps coming out that help you add textures and overlays to images it’s also well worth noting that the process involves more than just placing a texture over a photo and adjusting the opacity.
My advice, don’t stop trying to push your images to the next level. Your best images will be the images that were challenging to create but in the end you thought – well that was easy, only to look up and realized you’ve been working on it for 3 or 4 hours!
